Anika Bendel studied stage dance (Berlin and ZZT/HfMT Cologne) and international arts management (CIAM/HfMT Cologne). She is a freelancing dancer, choreographer and arts manager.
She danced in choreographies of Stefanie Schwimmbeck (2019), Marja Leena Hirvonen (2015), Katja Erdmann-Rajski (2015), Rafaele Giovanola (2012/2008), Richard Siegal (2011), Georg Reischl (2011), Anouk van Dijk (2011), Lorca Renoux (2011), Jay Pather (2010), Michael Maurissens (2008) and more.

Since 2010 she has been realizing choreographies, workshops and researches in cultural areas with other dance traditions. She taught workshops for mutual dance exchange in India (2016/2010), Iran (2015/2013/2012), Bangladesh (2013) and Sudan (2012). She combines improvisational techniques of contemporary dance with traditional knowledge of another dance culture. In cooperation with the Goethe-Institut she led the residence "Imagining Improvisation" (India/2016), the dance piece "The Limits Beyond" (Bangladesh/2013) and the workshop "Physical Performances in site-specific spaces" (Sudan/2012).
As choreographic assistant of Berlin based choreographer Helena Waldmann, she accustomed the prodcution "Made in Bangladesh" (world premiere 2014) and six international tours.
Through a constant dialogue with Iranian musicians, the video dance films "The Afghan Girl" (2015) and "Elegy of upcoming Memories" (2011) were developed in close cooperation with the santour-player Farnaz Modarresifar.
On biographical material she worked in her first solo piece "A Wall by Any Other Name", which was nominated for the best solo at the Solo Duo Festival in Budapest (2010).
Since January 2016, she has been working as a cultural producer in addition to her artistic work, including established companies and young artists. She was the first managing director of the Freelancing Dance and Theater Scene Stuttgart (2018/19). Since her exit from this institution, she is again increasingly focusing on her own artistic activities.
