During her internship at the Goethe-Institut in Bangladesh, Anika Bendel got familiar with the dancer, choreographer and cultural activist Lubna Marium and her Center Shadhona. She led a workshop based on improvisation techniques for the students of the Centre Shadhona. These students are mainly educated in the classical south indian dance form baratha natyam. Together they researched for possibilities to combine the south indian dance form with european improvisation techniques.

"The Limits Beyond" is a multimedia dance performance about street children.

The term street child became a universal term for diverse phenomena in industrial and developing countries for homeless and working children. Unicef differentiates between children on the street, those who work and hang around there, and children of the street, those who indeed live on the street, whoms center of life, whoms living and sleeping place is the street.

Street children are part of the bangladeshi society. But what do people know about them? Street children are living in precarious conditions. The life on the street leads to child labour, crime and prostitution. Drug abuse is a widespread means to distract from the lack of love, hunger and pain.
At times, these children and youth are victims of violence, sexual abuse and exploitation. Due to the lack of education and training, these children are not able to learn a profession and change the prospects for themselves and their children in the future.

What do children from the street wish for themselves? What are their dreams and thoughts?

In cooperation with Shishu Neer, a school for street children in Dhaka / Bangladesh, Anika Bendel documented in a playful and trustful atmosphere the stories of the children, the pathes and difficulties of their lifes, their hopes and dreams as well as their perspectives. She integrated these recordings into a public performance with the dancers of Shadhona.

"The Limits Beyond" was premiered on 23 April 2013 at the Goethe Institute in Bangladesh and broadcasted by the bangladeshi TV station Desh TV.
