The freelance cultural producers Anika Bendel, Nadja Dias, Laurence Nagel and Aliki Schäfer joined forces in 2021-23 to explore the establishment of a joint production office in Baden-Württemberg. In this context, in spring 2022 they interviewed artists, producers and representatives of houses, interest groups and funding institutions about the production and working conditions, the challenges and needs in the independent performing arts scene in Baden-Württemberg and worked out the role of producers as key figures for a more sustainable cultural work. The report documents the situation and a mood characterized by the challenges of the corona pandemic. However, it also shows that demands and grievances already existed before the outbreak of the pandemic and remain valid today after the NEUSTART KULTUR programs have expired.
